Can you visit a museum after hours?
Sometimes. The useful distinction is between ordinary late opening and access arranged specifically outside normal public hours.
Museums normally publish fixed opening hours for general admission. Separately, some institutions offer before-hours or after-hours guided tours, private events or other controlled access formats.
MoMA provides a clear current example: its tour programme lists both before- and after-hours tours in addition to tours during normal museum hours. That does not mean every museum offers the same thing, but it proves the category exists.
If a museum matters enough to shape a trip, check the institution’s own “Tours”, “Groups”, “Events”, “Membership” and “Corporate” pages. The unusual option is often not visible in the ordinary ticket flow.
What’s the catch?
After-hours access may require advance booking, a guide, a minimum payment, membership or a group arrangement. Access can also be limited to particular galleries or dates.
