Can you book a museum privately?
Yes in some cases — but “private museum tour” can mean several very different things.
A private guided tour during public hours may give your party its own guide while the museum remains open to everyone else. Before- or after-hours access can go further by changing the crowd level itself.
MoMA currently publishes private guided tours and separate before- and after-hours formats. Its own description of the latter focuses on touring without the ordinary crowds.
When comparing offers, ask what is actually private: the guide, the group, the gallery, the entrance time or the building. Those are not interchangeable products.
What’s the catch?
Read the provider’s exact terms. Confirm timing, group size, which spaces remain public, what admission includes and whether the experience occurs outside public hours.
